World Heritage Sites in Finland

The international treaty called the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage was adopted by UNESCO in 1972. New sites which are considered as having exceptional universal value due to their unique character or as outstanding examples of their type are continuously nominated for inclusion on the World Heritage List.

There are seven World Heritage sites in Finland, six of which represent our cultural heritage and one (the latest addition) our natural heritage.

  • Fortress of Suomenlinna (1991)
  • Old Rauma (1991)
  • Petäjävesi Old Church (1994)
  • Verla Groundwood and Board Mill (1996)

Importance of Land

An esoteric science, or just dull fiddling with numbers? Land surveying may seem like an obscure branch of science, but it is actually very much present in our daily lives. We use land survey information and geographical data every day without paying much attention to the fact. The examples found on this page were designed as tools for teachers and to provide insightful learning experiences.
